The SKIL X-Bench was designed with the homeowner in mind. The workstation comes folded for easy storage in tight spaces. It folds out, creating a working surface that measures 53” x 23”. The steel legs are independently adjustable, allowing users set the table at the height level that best suits their needs, from 24” up to 34”.
The SKIL X-Bench is loaded with features. The new and innovative cut channel, the first cutting solution of this kind in the industry, is located in the center of the bench. Two sections of the table top can be pulled apart, exposing the cut channel, which can accommodate skilsaws up to 7-1/4”. The table top is constructed from a tough MDF (medium density fiberboard) material and features a peg holes that accept the wedge dog clamps (2 included with table), allowing users to secure materials to the table when using the cut channel. Ruler markings are provided on the MDF wood surface for accurate measurements. Additional features include a miter gauge slot and a bump-off power switch.
When you’ve wrapped up a project or you’re ready to take the X-Bench on the go, portability is a snap. The steel legs fold up and the table folds in half. Just grab a hold of the carrying handle and you’re ready to go.
“The SKIL X-Bench is another strong example of our ability to deliver innovative products that combine convenience and performance,” said Ray Peppiatt, product development and marketing director for SKIL Power Tools. “The X-Bench has unparalleled size for a portable workstation. It will meet and exceed user expectations.”
Several optional accessories are available and sold separately to help support any job a user wants to tackle. These include the following:
Universal Insert Plate System – The SKIL patented Insert Plate System is available for SKIL jigsaws, routers and sanders. By utilizing each of the individual tool insert plates, users are able to convert a portion of the workstation into a scroll saw or sanding station, or a router table.
Drill Press – Converts the X-bench into a drill press, using a ½” corded drill and the patented insert plate system. The drill press allows users to complete fine woodworking projects where hole depth and angle are crucial.
Downdraft Table – For DIYers that perform their projects inside, the downdraft table keeps dust to a minimum when sanding. There is a 2-1/2” vacuum hose attachment on the bottom of the table, which pulls sawdust through small openings on the top of the downdraft table, minimizing dust and keeping the work area clean.
Clamping Kit – A kit consisting of many different clamping options for securing work pieces on the workstation. The clamping kit includes wedge dogs, spring clamps and horizontal clamps, as well as a storage bag that attaches to the X-Bench.
Tail Vise –A tail vise clamping system can be attached to the side of the X-Bench, allowing users securely clamps materials up to 5” thick, for larger project demands. A single clamping knob with dual guide rails ensures even clamping pressure along work piece.
Finishing Tray End Cap –SKIL also offers a finishing tray that attaches to the side of the X-Bench, providing additional storage off the work surface for finish work. The tray is designed to hold finishing products such as one quart paint or stain cans, brushes, tape rolls and paper towels.
Shelf & Tool Bag –The shelf and tool bag provide storage on the workstation for commonly used materials, tools and accessories. The shelf and bag fasten below the table when in use and fold flat when the X-Bench is being stored.
The SKIL X-Bench will be available beginning in August 2007, for a suggested retail price of $149.99. Accessories will also be available August 2007 and will range in price from $14.99 to $99.99.
