Newest Worm Drive Upgrades Keep SKIL a Cut Above

January 21, 2008 – When SKIL Power Tools introduced its first SKILSAW® in 1924, few people realized the impact it would have on building a nation. More than 80 years later, the SKILSAW is credited for changing the construction and home improvement industry forever. The newest upgrade to the Worm Drive SKILSAWS carries on that legendary heritage, while keeping up with the demands of contemporary framers, builders and DIYers.

The new worm drive SKILSAWs continue the long tradition of quality, rugged durability and consistently exceptional cutting performance.  The most recent feature added is the 51degree bevel capacity with a positive 45 degree stop.  This allows users to make cuts that previously could not be made with the standard 7-1/4” worm drive.  The worm drive saws now deliver 15-amps of power, benefiting from the new high-temperature wiring and come with a 24-tooth carbide blade and a two-position saw hook.  Additional features include durable worm gearing and a patented anti-snag lower guard.

“For more than 80 years the SKILSAW has proved to be an invaluable tool on America’s residential and commercial construction sites,” said John Surane, president of SKIL Power Tools. “We are constantly driving to innovate and improve the SKIL Worm Drive. The new SHD77 and SHD77-M Worm Drives are an example of that—they incorporate decades of on-the-job-site research and dedication to deliver the world’s best cutting tool.”

The SHD77M Worm Drive saws, commonly known as the MAG77 saws, are a full two lbs lighter than the aluminum models, allowing the user to work longer with less fatigue. These models feature magnesium rather than plastic housing for greater durability and a rugged aluminum foot.

The SKIL SHD77 and SHD77M Worm Drive Saws with the 51 degree bevel capacity will be available in stores nationwide beginning in July of 2008 and will have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $169.00 and $189.00 respectively.
