SKIL Adds to Cutting Heritage with Newest SKILSAW Introductions

January 2, 2008 – SKIL Power Tools is bringing lightweight, compact power to the company’s signature tool, the SKILSAW, with the introduction of four new models in 2008.  Incorporating feedback of customers with the findings of extensive research and testing, the new SKILSAW’s provide upgrades and features to enhance the user’s experience.

“The SKILSAW is the tool on which our company’s reputation is built,” said Gregg Mangialardi, a 30 year veteran of SKIL and the Product Manager for SKILSAWS.  “We’re constantly looking for ways to improve upon our products, and we are confident our customers will see the benefits of the changes we’ve made for 2008.”

The new SKILSAWS being introduced in 2008 include the 5480, 5580, 5680 and 5780.  Each provides the legendary performance and quality SKILSAW is known for.

5480 SKILSAW: Ideal for the beginning or novice DIYer, the 5480 SKILSAW is compact and easy to handle.  The 13-amp, 2.3 horsepower motor features ball bearing construction that delivers twice the life of its predecessor.  The compact design is ½ pound lighter, reducing user fatigue, and offers a foot plate that is six inches wide, increasing stability.  SKIL puts a priority on safety by including an anti-snag lower guard for safer cutting and a lock-off switch and guarded trigger to minimize accidental motor starts.   A rear lever depth-adjustment allows for quick cut-depth changes, and a two-point line of sight to ensure cutting accuracy.  The saw comes equipped with an 18-tooth carbide blade and a wrench stored on the tool for added convenience.  Debuting in February 2008, the 5480 SKILSAW will retail for $49.99.

5580 SKILSAW: With added horsepower and innovative features, the 5580 SKILSAW provides added functionality for the user looking to take their cutting to the next level.  The new SKILSAW features the ACCU-SIGHT™ cut guide system, giving users a clear view of the cut line out ahead of the foot plate for perfect alignment.  The saw incorporates many of the features of the 5480, such as the anti-snag lower guard and on-tool wrench storage, while pushing the horsepower to 2.4.  The rear view depth-adjustment is also upgraded to an easy-to-read scale for quicker depth changes.  A carrying bag, 24-tooth carbide blade and wrench are included.  The 5580 will be available beginning in April 2008, and retails for $59.99.

5680 SKILSAW: SKIL has added another level of power and performance with the 5680 SKILSAW.  Not only will users feel an increase in power with the 14-amp, 2.5 horsepower motor, they will also benefit from increased accuracy with the Laser Cutline™ , providing confidence the line they are cutting is the line they want to cut.  Added features seen for the first time on a SKILSAW include the Power-On LED light, showing users know when the saw is plugged in, and a an on/off button for the laser guide system.  The 5680 incorporates a soft-grip handle for added comfort plus all of the features of earlier models such as an anti-snag lower guard, safety lock and guarded trigger, rear view depth-adjustment and on-tool wrench storage.  The 5680 will be in stores in June 2008, and will retail for $69.99.  A carrying bag, 24-tooth carbide blade and wrench are included.

5780 SKILSAW: For the experienced pro and seasoned DIYers, SKIL’s 5780 SKILSAW provides unequalled power and the best array of features.  A 15-amp, 2.6 horsepower motor delivers enough power for almost any project, while the LaserX2™ 2-beam laser guide system ensures a precise cut every time.  The saw offers a 51 degree bevel capacity with a positive stop at 45 degrees, allowing users to make a wider variety of cuts.  The Grip-Right™ soft-grip handle ensures user comfort and a spindle lock makes changing blades more convenient for users.  Standard features such as an anti-snag lower guard, safety lock and guarded trigger, rear view depth-adjustment and on-tool wrench storage complete the package.  The saw comes with a carrying bag, 24-tooth carbide blade and wrench.  The saw will be in stores in June 2008, with a retail price of $79.99.
